Chucki Begay
and
the
Mother Earth
Blues Band
Chucki Begay is a Dine’
singer/songwriter and her style of music is contemporary Native
American. She comes
from a place called Dzil’abei
(Gray
Mountain) on the Navajo Indian
Reservation in northern Arizona.
Chucki began her music
career as a solo artist alongside a Native flute accompanist. She blends her contemporary
Native American style of music with soothing rhythms of
rock/blues/folk/jazz.
Chucki’s traditional Dine’ teaching influenced her music and
is inherent in her motivating words and soulful way of expressing
her music, whether it be about love, heartbreak, or Hozhoji or
Beautyway.
Chucki released her debut
cd “Songs From My Heart” in 2007 and has since become a
well-established national and international music artist making a
name for her self among the contemporary Native American music
scene. In 2008, Chucki
was nominated “Debut Artist of the Year” for the 2008 Native
American Music Awards.
Her music has also received honorable recognition by Native
American organizations, television and radio shows, newsletters, and
magazines. Chucki’s
style of music has been hailed as empowering, soulful, compelling,
and heartfelt.
Currently, Chucki has
joined forces with the Mother Earth Blues Band, a well-known
rock/blues band.
Together, Chucki Begay and the Mother Earth Blues Band
promise to take their music to a higher level within the
contemporary Native American music scene and into mainstream
society. They are in
the process of recording their first cd together and as a
collaborative effort plan to take their music on the
road.
Ritchie Anderson, Dine’
from Borrego Pass, NM,
has been the front man for the Mother Earth Blues Band since
1996 playing at music festivals and clubs across the nation and into
Canada with his trusty Les Paul “Charlene”. As a lead-slide guitarist,
he has contributed his skills and talent to many top native bands
and performers. Ritchie
is a graduate from the Musician’s Institute in
Hollywood, CA. His guitar style has been
described as ‘bluesy soulful’…but he is pretty versatile and can
play just about anything.
